Making something out of nothing.

In an effort to inspire spring to "get with it," I built nests yesterday.

Our local farm market sells blue and green chicken eggs. They got me thinking...

Thursday night I collected a bunch of dead weeds and cut a few lengths of grape vine.

I laid them out to dry over night and thankfully only found one insect egg sack.

I have a large collection of pressed leaves, feathers and minerals which came in handy.

The black and white polka  dotted feather in the back of the nest if from a Guinea Fowl hen. My neighbors flock case the neighborhood for bugs. I need to look for more feathers, they are pretty.

I gave all three nests away as gifts last night. I need to buy more eggs and makes a few more nests.

Other News,

This is the last weekend I'll be collection maple sap. Boiling down the sap will finish up next week.
So far I have made 2 1/2 quarts of maple syrup.

I should go outside today and gather more weeds. Here in PA it is another rainy day, MUD! Everything is still brown and gray. We are all waiting for spring flowers to pop, they are taking their time this year.

Unfortunately the ticks are active. I've already been attacked. My friend told me her dog has been tick free due to a flea collar. She suggested I get myself a flea collar. What would I do without my friends?

Happy Easter!

  1. Not good news about ticks, watch out. Try oregano oil in the bite, push it in, it burns but kills the spyrokete. Happy free form nests. xox
