Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
My daughter Eva and I are walking 2017 miles this year.
On New Year's day we joined a little over a hundred people for the
First Day Hike at Moraine State Park.
We hiked seven miles that day and five more on January 2nd.
Last spring I stopped posting due to many reasons. Life was happening and I was adjusting.
My dog Chow Wow became ill and pasted away.
She was a one in a million dog and I miss her deeply.
I was also plagued with computer viruses and other glitches.
Then a co-working went into  labor a month early, all turned out well but I had to scrambled a bit.
My middle daughter got married and moved to another state.
I inherited her two chickens.
Next I started reading books on long distance running.
I'm not a runner but I was motivated to start walking every day.
My dog Zeus and I walked 2 to 4 miles a day this summer and into the fall.
I have made some art over the last few months and taken a few photos but those endeavors were half hearted. I've been thinking lately that if I start blogging again it will kick start my creative life.
My next thought is always, do I want to?
I've enjoyed not having a computer and staying off line.
Being in nature has been so good for my soul.
The last few years on New Year's day I have declared a theme that would direct my path. Last year was about being here, present in the moment. I even had a second blog until my laptop crashed.
This year I've decided to go with The Art of Living.
I have no idea where this is going. I want to get back into my studio, pick up my Canon and ?
Well, live a life that interests me. Right now I'm reading a book about urban homesteading. I live in the country and have a little over an acer of clear land to do...what? I'm sure I'll come up with something. I have chickens and two raised garden beds. Can't leave out composting, one large pile on the ground and one barrel for  kitchen scraps.
No more worrying about what's happening in Washington.
No more watching new reports, reading online news or the nasty comments that follow.
Instead I plan on focusing on my community and neighbors.
Here, where I live, is my world and I plan on making it a better place.
This year I will make Living a good life an art form.

The 365 Flowers Project

Lots of good stuff happening. A grant I wrote for our local library came through! We now have funding for a large art project that will be part of the kid's summer reading program. More on that later, stay tuned!

In other news....

The Eric Carle art has been a hit at the library. These pictures are not good but you can get an idea of how it looks. The art is made construction paper and paint. I decided to use window markers to add background interest. It worked out well, letting the artwork take center stage. The camera didn't pick up on how cool these two media work together.

The camera had a hard time picking out a focus point. There are two other windows to this story but I gave up on my camera. Now for the second part of this story. I was asked to teach a children's art class on Carle-ish art at a local gallery.

I hope to get back to the flower project soon. My daughter's health is improving. My dog is the same, no worse so I'm hopeful. Today I have many family obligations to meet, no time for art. Don't feel to bad for me, one of the things on my "to do" list today is to try out a zip line at the environmental center where I work. Wish me luck!

The 365 Flowers Project

I've gotten off track with the daily flower making. Things at the environment education center have been busy. My oldest daughter has some scary health issues and my dog is also sick.
Life has been interesting!
This month our local library is celebrating Eric Carle.
I made some Carle-ish art for the occasion.
I created all the animals from Rooster's Off to See the World.
The artwork will be hung this afternoon.

The 365 Flower Project

Day 103

Taking photos or making art with a flower theme every day in 2016.

This week was mail art week!

Day 102

Day 101

Day 100

See you here tomorrow.

The 365 Flowers Project

Day 99

Taking Photos or making art with a flower theme every day in 2016. Why, to be creative every day and get my butt inside my studio!

This flower is made of tissue paper and a glass ball. The full sunlight changed the look of the flower. The camera image of "blown out" color looks so different from what I saw with my naked eye. Also The orientation of the flower within the photo gives the flower a different feel. I thought it was an interesting experiment.

I'm going to publish this post quickly before my internet connection drops ...again....
be back soon with more update posts.

The 365 Flowers Project

Day 96

Taking photos or making art with a flower theme every day in 2016.  Why, to get me in my studio!

Yeah! Photos are uploading!
Still having internet issues. Tech support says I'm dropping data packets. No fix as of yet.
We had snow over the weekend. I made flowers out of magazines during these cold gloomy days.
Day 97
 Day 98

I'm not sure which I like better, making spiral flowers or photographing them.
Tomorrow will also be a multiple posting. I hope to catch up. May the internet gods smile on me.
See you here tomorrow.
