The Blank Frame
The blank canvas, the blank page, both can be daunting to an artist.
Right now it's the blank frame that has me squirming.
I am trying to come up with something for a regional art show. Since I usually scramble to have my work framed at the last minute, I decided this time to do things the other way around. I bought a very large frame first, now I need to fill it.
I have some ideas, this project is all I thought about while down with the flu.
The black and white color scheme on the frame had me thinking about doing something with my 3D wasp nest photos. Then I slipped into possibly doing a piece on bee colony collapse.
Today might be a good day to explore the inside of the bald face wasp nest I cut down last fall. The backside has a large split which exposes the interior. I believe birds pecked the nest open when the wasps started to die off.
I found the wasp nest after I was stung by a guy who looked like this. He inspired me to make a ICAD card. ( Make art on an Index Card a Day)
I do have a history with stinging insects in my art.
As it is snowing again I keep thinking I need to make something with a lot of color.
Maybe magazine art?
Tomorrow is Monday, I plan on being in the studio bright and early!
What I'll be making, I have no idea...
Have fun filling that frame. I like working big, so I would enjoy that challenge. xox

This made me smile, Jill. You managed to bring a bit of spring and summer to the page whilst pondering your dilemma! Wishing you all the best with your current project! :D
