Ode to the Brown Paper Bag

Why use a paper bag in your art?

It turns out that the paper bag once put through the following process is as flexible as fabric.

Cut the paper bag along the glue seam. Then remove the bottom of the bag.

I start at one end of the bag, roll and crunch the bag length wise into its self. Then twist the bag in different directions to break the fibers.

Unroll and repeat the process width wise.

The more you crunch and twist the more flexible it becomes.

Next flatten the bag out and iron with a hot iron.

Now your bag is ready to dye, stamp, paint, sew or....whatever you can think up!

I made flags on my first bog date. If the flag curls or wrinkles, I just iron it flat again---paint side down.

I get my bags for free and they are a good base material for art.
