GAGA

Only a few days left until the Lady GaGa concert in Pittsburgh.
 Guess who has tickets!
My friends want to dress up and I'm in charge of costumes. It is winter here in western PA so I thought that wearing to much extra stuff on top of winter gear would be a pain in the butt. So I'm making scarves. I copied photos of GaGa's latest Vogue shoot off the Internet on to printable fabric.
See the cool shiny bits? Well check out how I did that.

I didn't make this technique up. I saw it on HGTV's That's Clever. The name of the woman who thought this up is gone from my head. I can tell you she is an art quilter from Canada.

This so fun to make. It's layer of kitchen plastic wrap!
First I put down one sheet of  Saran wrap, I like this brand for it's weight. Next I smeared a thin layer of metallic paint, go light...no puddles. I then laid another piece of plastic wrap on top. I place bits of pink foil down. Then another layer of plastic wrap with blue foil bits on top. The foils are  wrappers from Dove chocolates, which my mom is happy to supply me with.
Top the pile off with another piece of Saran wrap.

Now place a piece of parchment paper over the piece and break out a hot iron. It only takes a few passes to melt the layers together. Don't forget the parchment paper or you will have a mess on your iron!
The plastic wrap does not stick to the parchment paper.

You can put all kind of stuff between the layers and I have gone as far a making this seven layers thick.
Things I've used between the layers have been glitter, chopped up string, sequins, angelica fibers and colored paper bits.
After the layers are melted it's easy to cut out shaped and sew to fabric or glue to paper.
